Transportation Research Board (TRB)

As part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, the Transportation Research Board (TRB) mobilizes expertise, experience, and knowledge to anticipate and solve complex transportation-related challenges. The Board’s varied activities annually engage more than 5,500 engineers, scientists, and other transportation researchers and practitioners from the public and private sectors and academia, all of whom contribute their expertise in the public interest. The program is supported by state departments of transportation, federal agencies including component administrations of the U.S. Department of Transportation, and other organizations and individuals interested in the development of transportation.

Kay Fitzpatrick is the 2027 recipient of the Thomas B. Deen Distinguished Lectureship

Update

Fitzpatrick, senior research fellow at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, has advanced the fields of roadway geometric design, pedestrian traffic control devices, and transportation safety through research that has shaped transportation practice across the United States. Fitzpatrick will deliver her lecture titled "Addressing Roadway Safety, One Step at a Time" on Monday, January 11, 2027, at the TRB Annual Meeting.

Eight Winners Selected for the 2026 TRB Airport Cooperative Research Program’s Graduate Research Awards

News Release

The Transportation Research Board’s Airport Cooperative Research Program announced eight recipients of this year’s ACRP Graduate Research Awards. The prestigious award — established to stimulate thought, discussion, and research by graduate students who will become part of the future airport industry workforce — focuses on applied research of airport and related aviation system issues to help improve the quality, reliability, safety, and security of the U.S. civil aviation system.

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) confers and collaborates on awards recognizing exceptional achievement, distinguished service, and humanitarian efforts. In addition, the TRB Executive Committee has authorized annual presentation of a limited number of awards for outstanding papers published by TRB and sponsored by designated groups within its Technical Activities Council.
