Completed

This 1.5-day workshop, hosted by the Food Forum of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, explored nutrition across the lifespan for healthy aging. The workshop facilitated a broad examination of the trends and patterns of aging and factors related to healthy aging in the U.S., with a specific focus on nutrition. The agenda included a range of topics on the spectrum of aging and health, from early-life origins of disease to overweight and obesity in late adulthood.

Description

An ad hoc committee will plan and conduct a two-day public workshop that will explore the current state of knowledge regarding nutrition across the lifespan, specifically related to nutritional needs, concerns, and eating behaviors and patterns during various life stages, from pregnancy and early childhood, through to adulthood, including late adulthood. The workshop agenda will include presentations and discussion that will explore the concept of wellbeing and healthy aging through the lifespan-- definition/s and potential markers that can be used to measure and support research on dietary and lifestyle approaches to support wellbeing and healthy aging. Additionally, the workshop will consider the dynamics of nutritional needs across the lifespan and how they can impact health and aging healthfully.
The committee will develop the workshop agenda, select and invite speakers and discussants, and moderate the discussions. After the workshop, a brief workshop summary and full workshop summary of the event will be prepared by a designated rapporteur in accordance with institutional guidelines.
