Now is an exciting time for brain research, with the creation of large pools of data, novel techniques, and multi-national collaborations. These advances have been supported by a shift toward cloud computing, which allows multiple researchers to work with common tools and enormous datasets. At the same time, the cloud model has also produced new challenges related to data storage, protection, and use. On September 24, 2019, the National Academies’ Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders hosted a workshop that brought together a broad range of stakeholders to explore opportunities for harnessing cloud technology to advance neuroscience research and share approaches for addressing current challenges.
