Fulfilling the Potential of Cancer Prevention and Early Detection: An American Cancer Society and Institute of Medicine Symposium

Released:

Fulfilling the Potential of Cancer Prevention and Early Detection: An American Cancer Society and Institute of Medicine Symposium reports a symposium held in June 2003 to disseminate the findings from a previously released IOM National Cancer Policy Board report on cancer prevention and to discuss ways in which the recommendations of that report might be realized.

Keynoted by the Director of the National Cancer Institute and the CEO of the American Cancer Society, the symposium featured presentations in plenary session by national experts from insurers, payers, managed care, academia, government, health professions, and business considering cancer prevention and detection from their various perspectives. Four group discussions among experts and those attending the symposium also reviewed obesity and tobacco policy, payer/provider/managed care perspectives, applied research in prevention, and prevention through education and primary care.
