  • Implementing and Evaluating Genomic Screening Programs in Health Care Systems: A Workshop Date: November 1, 2017 (8:30 AM Eastern)

    The Roundtable on Genomics and Precision Health will hold a public workshop on November 1, 2017 that will explore the challenges and opportunities associated with integrating genomics into large-scale health organizations. Case studies of large-scale genomics programs and collaborative learning networks may be highlighted during the workshop as a way to understand successes and lessons learned regarding economic considerations (e.g., clinical utility, value), policy environments (e.g., alleviating privacy and discrimination concerns for participants), and data sharing. Workshop discussions will be held with a broad array of stakeholders which may include health economists, representatives from health care delivery systems, public health officials, bioethicists, implementation science researchers, clinicians, payers, and policy makers.
  • Learning from Ebola and the Future U.S. Role in Global Health: A Symposium Date: October 18, 2017 (2:00 PM Eastern)

    The National Academies of Medicine, the Association of Schools and Programs for Public Health, and Emory University are hosting a global health symposium to discuss recently released National Academies’ reports and experiences in the Atlanta region during the 2014 Ebola outbreak. Following presentations, a panel of global health experts will discuss the current state of U.S. investments in global health and implications for the future.

    The Forum on Neuroscience and Nervous System Disorders proposes to host a public workshop bringing together key stakeholders to advance the discussions that emerged from the three National Institutes of Health meetings scheduled in June and July 2017 to address the opioid epidemic, and examine potential implementation barriers and opportunities related to the proposed approaches discussed.

    This workshop will explore meaningful and measurable outcomes of GME, possible metrics that could be used to track these outcomes, possible mechanisms for collecting, collating, analyzing and reporting this data, and further work to accomplish this ambitious goal.
  • Redesigning the Process for Establishing the Dietary Guidelines for Americans - Report Release (Webinar) Date: September 14, 2017 (11:00 AM Eastern)

    An ad hoc committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine will undertake a study to review the entire process used to establish the Advisory Committee for the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) and the subsequent development of the DGA. On September 14, 2017, the National Academies will host a webinar on this final report: Redesigning the Process for Establishing the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
