In response to the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2010 and an ensuing request from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine’s Institute of Medicine assembled a committee of experts to conduct an epidemiological study to evaluate the health status of the veterans of Project SHAD (Shipboard Hazard and Defense).

The Committee on Shipboard Hazard and Defense II will hold its second meeting on February 23-24, 2012, in Sacramento, California. In its open session on the afternoon of January 19, committee will hear invited presentations from SHAD veterans, Congressional staff, and representatives of VA and DoD and interested Veterans Service Organizations. There will be an opportunity for brief comments from the public.
