IOM Evaluation of PEPFAR to Release Feb. 20
Released: 2/15/2013

Evaluation of PEPFAR, a new report from the Institute of Medicine, presents the results of an assessment of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief as requested by Congress in its reauthorization of funding for the initiative in 2008. The report includes recommendations for how PEPFAR and its partner countries can most effectively sustain and advance gains made in preventing and treating the HIV/AIDS epidemic worldwide. Congress will review the initiative later this year.

Countering Fake and Substandard Drugs: IOM Report Releases Feb. 13

As the recent appearance of fake versions of cancer drugs illustrates, the increase in international production and trade of medications has come with an increase in illegitimate or poor-quality drugs reaching patients worldwide. Countering the Problem of Falsified and Substandard Drugs, a new report from the Institute of Medicine, recommends steps to improve the capacity of the United States and other nations to discover fake or subpar products and close gaps that allow products to be falsified or diluted.

IOM Report on Safety of Imported Foods, Drugs to Be Discussed at Public Briefing

Members of the Institute of Medicine committee that wrote the new report Ensuring Safe Foods and Medical Products Through Stronger Regulatory Systems Abroad will discuss their report with interested stakeholders and reporters at a one-hour public briefing. The briefing will begin at 1 p.m. EDT Wednesday, April 4, in the First Amendment Lounge of the National Press Club, 529 14th St., N.W., Washington, D.C.
