On July 29, 2014, the IOM released the report Graduate Medical Education That Meets the Nation’s Health Needs, an independent review of the governance and financing of the U.S. graduate medical education (GME) system. The 21-member committee that authored the report found that although the scale of government support for physician training far exceeds that for any other profession, there is a striking absence of transparency and accountability in the current GME system. The committee recommended significant changes to GME financing and governance to address current deficiencies and better shape the physician workforce for the future. Register Here >>

This webinar will review the committee’s approach, findings, and recommendations and offer an opportunity for participants to join the conversation. The webinar will feature presentations from:

  • Gail R. Wilensky, Ph.D., Project HOPE
  • Debra Weinstein, M.D., Partners Healthcare System, Inc.
  • Deborah E. Powell, M.D., University of Minnesota Medical School

Participants in the webinar will:

  • Learn how the IOM committee arrived at its findings and recommendations
  • Discuss the committee’s recommendations related to distribution and oversight of GME funding from the Medicare program
  • Explore potential challenges in implementing the committee’s recommendations
