Forum on Regenerative Medicine - Focus Area: Patient Perspectives and Communications
Recent advances in regenerative medicine offer promise for patients with few or no treatment options left to explore. While there are promising therapies in development and several FDA-approved therapies on the market, regenerative medicine products face unique safety and efficacy challenges because of their reliance on living cells and tissues. The Forum is interested in exploring how patients can become more involved in the research and development process and how experts (e.g., scientists, clinicians) in the field can better communicate about regenerative medicine with the public. The Forum has identified several areas of interest in the area of patient and clinician communication including gaining a better understanding of how patients gather information and make decisions related to medical treatments and therapies, identifying existing resources for educating and informing patients and providers about regenerative medicine therapies, and understanding the gaps in content and communication of those materials. Below are the Forum resources that pertain to patient perspectives and communications.
