Nicole Holland, D.D.S., M.S., is an Assistant Professor and Director of Health Communication, Education, and Promotion in the Department of Public Health and Community Service at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She developed and implemented the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine Health Literacy Intensive Dental Education, Literacy, & Community Partnership program, a curriculum for health literacy in dental education. She is the principle investigator of the Health Literacy as a Component of Pre-Doctoral Education for Candidates in Dental Medicine – Student Focus Group to Inform Curriculum Development, a project that determines pre-doctoral dental students’ attitudes, values and beliefs regarding health literacy in patient communication. She has presented numerous lectures on the topic to a variety of audiences. Dr. Holland is a member of the International Health Literacy Association and the American Dental Association’s National Advisory Committee on Health Literacy in Dentistry. In 2014, she received the Tufts-Emerson Health Communication Program Emerging Leader Award for Leading Change and Innovation in the Field of Health Communications.
