Marlo Libel, M.D., M.P.H.
Marlo Libel, M.D., M.P.H., is a medical epidemiologist and senior advisor with the Pandemics team at the Skoll Global Threats Fund from 2014 to date. He was regional advisor on communicable diseases with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) from 1985 to 2009. At the headquarters in Washington D.C., Dr. Libel coordinated the revision of the International Health Regulations (2005) in the Western Hemisphere; implemented the Regional Plan for Surveillance and Control Emerging/Reemerging Infectious Diseases; coordinated the establishment Emerging Infectious Diseases surveillance networks in the Southern Cone, Amazon Basin, and Central America; and coordinated PAHO’s alert and response operations. Stationed in Panama City, Panama, from 1985 to 1988, Dr. Libel was responsible for direct technical cooperation with Central American countries to improve epidemiological public health surveillance systems, epidemiology training, and disease outbreaks investigation and control.
