Integrating Infectious Disease Considerations with Response to the Opioid Epidemic - A Workshop
The opioid epidemic is changing the epidemiology of HIV, hepatitis, and other infectious disease.
- There is evidence of increases in these diseases and some communities have been affected disproportionately
- Intravenous drug use (use and reuse of syringes) and sexual transmission are important sources of infection
contributing to the spread of these diseases
- Opioid addiction is on the increase in women; this has implications for perinatal transmission of HIV and hepatitis.
The workshop will provide an opportunity to understand the epidemiology of HIV, hepatitis, and infectious
diseases and how the epidemiology of these diseases is interrelated.
