2013 DC Public Health Case Challenge: Violence Affecting LGBT Youth

The participating teams were:

  • American University
  • George Mason University
  • George Washington University
  • Georgetown University
  • Howard University
  • Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences
  • United States Naval Academy

Teams were given two weeks to design an intervention that addresses the challenge described in the case. They then presented their interventions to a panel of judges. 

The 2013 judges were: 

  • Saul M. Levin, M.D., M.P.A., Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director – Designate, American Psychiatric Association
  • Amy Loudermilk, M.S.W., is the Deputy Director of the District of Columbia Mayor's Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Affairs
  • Chris Philpot, Case Manager, Latin American Youth Center
  • Harrison C. Spencer, M.D., M.P.H., DTM&H, CPH, President and CEO, Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health 
  • Margaret Talbot, M.A., staff writer for The New Yorker magazine 
  • Evelyn P. Tomaszewski, M.S.W., Senior Policy Advisor, Human Rights & Social Justice Division of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
