Violence Affecting LGBT Youth: Follow-Up to 2013 Case Challenge

When: December 12, 2013 (12:30 PM Eastern)
Where: Keck Center (100) • 500 Fifth St. NW, Washington, DC 20001

Topics Public Health, Global Health
Activity: DC Public Health Case Challenge
Board: HMD Executive Office

This event will focus on two topics that arose out of the DC Regional Public Health Case Challenge, which took place on November 15: school bullying directed toward LGBT youth and violence affecting homeless LGBT youth in DC. The event will bring together students, implementers, and policy makers working on these issues in the DC area to share new ideas on counteracting LGBT-aimed violence.

Panelists will include representatives from the Mayor’s Office of GLBT Affairs, DC Department of Human Services, Metropolitan Police Department, DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education, local NGOs, and students who participated in the case challenge.

Two of the university case challenge teams will present their intervention overviews. This will be followed by a discussion of their thought processes, pros and cons to implementation, and how to build on these ideas. The event is open to the public.
