Activity Description

This committee oversaw the appointment, charge, and framework of panels and sub-committees to address the overall goal of developing and evaluating dietary reference intakes. The reference intakes include estimated average requirements, recommended dietary allowances, and maximum intake levels above which risk of adverse effects would increase. Guidance regarding the uses of reference intakes in assessign dietary adequacy and developing policy regarding feeding programs, food labeling, and fortification are provided where appropriate.
