The International Astronomical Union
On-Line Application for Nomination to IAU Membership Now Available
The USNC/IAU invites qualified scientists to apply for individual membership in the International Astronomical Union. Nomination by the USNC will ensure an invitation to the IAU General Assembly to be held August 3-14, 2009 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. USNC/IAU will notify applicants of their status by April 4, 2009. Visit the USNC/IAU homepage to enter the application.
February 2009 Symposium to
Highlight Biodiversity Policy
The National Academy of Sciences and the USNC/DIVERSITAS will convene “Twenty-First Century Ecosystems: Systemic Risk and the Public Good,” a symposium on the Science and Policy for Managing the Living World Two Centuries after the birth of Charles Darwin on February 11-12, 2009 at the AAAS. The symposium will focus on opportunities for designing policies that strengthen and make use of biodiversity and ecosystem services as well as the dangers of pursuing policies that put ecosystems at risk.
